Octopus is offering one free electric blanket per household to customers assessed as most vulnerable through its Octo Assist support programme. The scheme prioritises those with specific health or mobility needs and aims to help customers reduce heating costs — Octopus’s research says a typical home could save about £300 a year by using an electric blanket instead of heating the whole house.

Electric blankets are energy-efficient when used correctly: they typically cost about 2-4p per hour to run and are intended to be used as a throw over the body rather than a mattress topper. Applications are reviewed manually and you’ll be contacted after assessment; the offer is limited to one blanket per home so the support reaches those who need it most.
